Example of Soundtrack Script - and how to link to your Storyboard

Unit 5 Video Production Evaluation

Explain what you created – a horror movie trailer based on a phobia and tell us the idea, the storyline

Does your final film reflect your original ideas in your proposal? Or did it change? If it changed explain why? Maybe you teamed up with someone else and joined up your ideas?

Evaluate all your planning – your pre production.

How useful was your storyboard and why?

Did you need to arrange for permission to film in a particular place and use certain actors? Explain this.

Did planning and booking equipment help you? How?

Did listing all the props you needed help? How?

How did doing risk assessments and location recces help?

Evaluate your actual shoot – how many times did you have to go out and film? Why was this?

Did your shoot go smoothly – OR NOT! – If NOT, then why not? What happened?

Evaluate your editing? How well did you work with final cut express?

What edits did you use? How did you spend most of your editing time?

Did you have all the footage you needed? Were you going back and cutting tiny bits of shots to get the shot at exactly the right short duration to build tension? Were you experimenting with filters? Or with text for your titles and credits? Or with your soundtrack?

Evaluate your final product – pick a couple of shots that you really liked (e.g. the close up of the swinging light, the establishing shot of the derelict house etc) – explain them and explain why they worked

Then pick a couple of shots that could’ve been better and explain what was wrong with them – what didn’t work

Finally – what did other people say about your video? What did they like about it and why? What didn’t they like about it and why?

Check out this great documentary from Jordan Miles.  There are some great insights about how mobile photography is changing the medium.  Well done Jordan.

Taken and Processed (by TheJordanmiles)

This is the photograph that I intend to put in my presentation to show how I have been influenced by Joel Meyerowitz.
The main similarities are:
it’s a street photograph
it involves a person making an interesting gesture
the subject is not aware of the fact that I have photographed him
the background creates an amusing contrast with the foreground - it looks as if they are related even though they aren’t
the image was partly created by chance but reflects the idea of the “Decisive Moment”
The main differences are:
the space in my photograph is narrower and shallower than in most of Meyerowitz’s images
I used a longer lens (about 35mm rather 28mm)
there are fewer people in my picture than in most of his
the colours aren’t quite as vivid (partly because there is less direct light)
I am pleased with my photograph, particularly the way the woman on the advert appears to be being poked in the eye by the pedestrian. I like the fact that I have captured a moment in time on a busy street. His expression is powerful. Next time, I will try to use a wider angle lens but still get close to my subjects, including more than one person and hope that the sun shines so I can reveal more colour.

Here’s an example of a presentation made on Googledocs for the Communication Unit. I chose to base mine on one of my favourite photographers, Joel Meyerowitz.

Notice that I haven’t put a great deal of text in my presentation. I plan to talk about the images and the photographer’s approach to making images. I have included a video from YouTube and copies of the images with annotations to remind me what I might want to say in my presentation.

The CV page doesn’t really work because there is too much text -  I will just pick one quotation I think. The last slide will be a photograph I have taken in the style of Joel Meyerowitz that shows I understand his work. I will need to evaluate my image in detail to demonstrate the similarities and differences.
